Sorgoi Prakov (2013)

Posted on October 23, 2024October 23, 2024 by Kev

Sorgoi Prakov is a Russianish (I say “ish” because he’s actually from Sdorvia, a country between Russia and Belarus. Go ahead, find that on a map) journalist who travels to France (a real country, you can find that one on a map pretty easily) with a camera and microphone strapped to his head, because that’s the level of tech you can buy in Sporktova. He’s filming his European vacation, which means it’s a found footage movie. The horror filmmaking version of reality television. Have an idea for a scary movie but don’t have any money? No sweat! Shoot it on your phone with some friends and call it Found Footage!

It’s a great way to turn a bland idea into a shitty movie with minimal capital investment. If you make it boring enough you can even critics into thinking it’s art.

This movie is better than that. It takes a bit for the ball to get rolling. For the first half it’s just a story of a guy who makes one bad decision after another, drinks too much, super naive about traveling alone in an unfamiliar city… think of all the dumbest shit you can do, Sorgoi will “hold my drink” you and do something even dumber. After awhile he transforms from dumb traveler to complete asshole. From complete asshole to destitute asshole. Then just loses his shit, more and more, then by the time we get to “incoherent dead-stuff puppet show” he’s a total psychotic rampaging caveman.

There. There’s an obscure horror movie you can watch and tell all your creep friends about, and earn your creep cool points with. Solid find!

New reviews are posted periodically on Saturdays, and every day throughout October
